    • @kindreon
      @kindreon 2 месяца назад

      My understanding is adding water doesn't help after a certain point since the gluten saturates. If you don't want to use "chemicals" or rest your dough for a long time, you need to be slow and gentle at the beginning with very small pulls to avoid any tears that will reset your progress like in my video. If you're getting stuck still, I'd suggest studying what I demonstrated more slowly. This technique usually requires some thinking and won't be learned by effort alone.

    Wilkes and his sister went to school in Hong Kong and she mentioned at his funeral to me how looking back even at school it was odd that her female friends and herself only wanted to date the non Asian guys at school, none of them found Asian men attractive. She said it was probably because Asian guys reminded them of their brothers and fathers.

    • @kindreon
      @kindreon 4 месяца назад

      Assuming his sister was Asian, I wonder if she wanted more specifically Caucasian rather than non-Asian, potentially having environmental effect on Wilkes or more controversially signaling some shared genetic inheritance in their preferences. There was some research suggesting people are wired to be more attracted to others with similar appearance. The contrast to data showing Asian women date very different looking Caucasian men as often or even more often than Asian men implies some pretty wacky dynamics.

    This might be a dumb question that I just missed the answer to, but under the castle gate model where, for example, the false folds are positioned to only let out a pulse for every integer multiple vocal fold pulse, then wouldn’t the false folds just filter out the vocal fold frequency so only the subharmonic frequency would be audible? Unless there isn’t supposed to be both frequencies at the same time? Again I am far from an expert on this, but would appreciate the explanation. (Btw loved this video. It’s easily the most comprehensive research and explanation on this topic that I’ve seen).

    • @kindreon
      @kindreon 4 месяца назад

      The castle only functions analogically. When conceptually moving back to vocal system land, I mentioned it's likely some air still escapes each bubble, ie: the false folds aren't a perfect gate. The escape rate including full opens would be the fundamental frequency. Norry, it's a sharp question and I'm not an expert either. If you're looking to explore my model's limits further, it only accounts for driving now. While matching CVT Research's interpretation of their electro-laryngo-whatevers, overtones from energy feedback aren't accounted for. I feel there's a way to construct a more complete differential equations model you could use for vocal fold simulation constrained by knowing solutions are harmonic. If you're a university freshman or sophomore with numerical methods experience, this could be a fun weekend project.

    • @beans2223
      @beans2223 4 месяца назад

      Thanks for the elaboration, there is definitely some more research to be done for me to fully understand how this stuff works, and I think it would be fun to try modeling vocal sub harmonics mathematically. I know it’s possible but unfortunately I’m a high school senior who just learned calculus a year ago so I think it’s a bit out of my range of knowledge, but I will absolutely keep the idea on the back of my mind for when I properly learn what differential equations actually are. Thanks for the suggestion.

      There's at least 6 inward basses, 7 if you count vocal fry. Inward chest bass is a lot smoother for me which seems to agree with yours. Been a while so might be wrong but I think I explained D-Low's inward here. The closest outward version would be hard bass.

    huge thank you for those high-effort explanations and tutorial videos. hope you keep bringing those every other year or so. first, i'm always a little mad when people spit untruths about this topic. second, beatboxers should also be a bit more educated about theory and sound production of their instrument. just a few days ago, i had a little rant about those puddle-deep 3-minute tutorials. i'd rather have a deep dive and really understand what i'm doing. third (and please correct me if i'm wrong), i think you also spat some untruth at 2:26 because how i learned it, the first subharmonic (same with harmonics) is defined as being equal to the base note F, the second is an octave below or F/2, third is F/3 and so on. so in my understanding you are always 1 off in this matter. doesnt matter tho, still love u, keep it up <3

    • @kindreon
      @kindreon 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching. I feel you on deeper dives. If you haven't checked them out already, AnTILT and MazeFrog do a great job going the extra mile. About numbering, what I remember: - 1st harmonic is usually F like you said, confirmed by Professor Titze over email, number matches denominator not Von Neumann index so common 0th harmonic label breaks convention - 1st overtone is usually 2F, ie: over the tone - 1st subharmonic is sometimes F or F/2, practical resources said F/2 but sequence includes F first, ultimately went with F/2 since sub the harmonic In sentiment, I agree with you about beatboxers studying the vocal system better. In practice, beatboxers are generally too young for the material. If you have ideas about how to better package theory for beatboxers, I'd love to chat. Just ping me on Discord linked in my channel's about page, and we can coordinate.

    To summarize the Slicer Effect, you're not focusing on vibrating two things at once (that's the result, not the cause). You're vibrating one thing and holding the other in a position where the escaping airflow from the first thing also vibrates that other thing. The airflow that escapes from the first thing usually just passes by the other thing but in this case because of how you've positioned it, the airflow vibrates it. In this case, the first thing is your vocal folds and the second thing is whatever else it is that you're trying to vibrate. This involves holding that other thing in the perfect position and with the perfect amount of tension and tautness so that the escaping airflow from your vocal folds interacts with that other thing in the perfect way. Being even a little off causes it to vibrate irregularly and produce the crackles you hear in an 'unclean' bass. I'd assume that finding this position and tension basically requires memorizing how much each muscle involved is contracted. This could also explain why doing seemingly superfluous things like tilting your head or changing vowels could impact how easy it is to do the sound - tilting your neck a bit may make it easier to hold the second vibrating structure in the required position. ________________________________________________________ About True Fold Subharmonics, it seems we simply don't have an explanation yet. Your idea of the 'bubbles' created by regular phonation ocassionally being squished during True Fold Subharmonics suffices for now until someone invents a better model. At the very least, it brings us back from the detour of explaining this technique using the Missing Fundamental Effect and having to accept the weaknesses of that explanation. It's a step in the right direction, but we still have a river to cross until we understand this well enough to have a near-perfect model. About the technique itself, it definitely feels like I'm holding my vocal folds in an alternate position when I execute True Fold Subharmonics compared to regular phonation. I think we interpret that alternate position as a combination of the positions of either regular phonation and fry or regular phonation and falsetto simply because different people often use different words for the same idea. We're referring to 'some constriction' that we don't have a name to describe and so some people think it's similar to fry and others think it's more similar to falsetto so they call it whichever they think it resembles more. We're going to have to do quite a lot of research into this specific constriction until we understand exactly which muscles are involved and how this position causes the lowering of frequency and/or change in resonance. To describe this vocal fold position by simply assuming and feeling it, 'halfway between regular phonation and fry' works well for me. That doesn't mean somehow doing half fry and half regular phonation simultaneously. Instead, I use it to mean 'hold your voice in a position that feels halfway between the precisely compressed one for vocal fry and the one for regular phonation and then just phonate'. Holding your vocal folds in this extremely precise position is the challenge, not somehow executing two vibrations in one object simultaneously as the latter is impossible. ______________________________________________________ Apologies for the wall of text. That's all the stuff that I wanted to write. Thanks for reading.

    • @kindreon
      @kindreon 8 месяцев назад

      You made a good point about the superficial movements. A lot of tips seem to help "extremize" positions to improve memorization. It's also possible there's multiple subharmonic singing techniques. Falsetto version may have different phases in basis than fry. Also I'm certain researchers have addressed the algebraic confusion since 1996. Just wasn't enough space in this video and felt it'd be better to address more immediate Wikipedia citation. You should make a video on your findings if you dig further!

But you're very eloquent and It didn't subtract from my overall understanding. Once again it was quite liberating to hear that many of my own ideas and strategies when it comes to teaching basses happened to be supported by much more objective information. I still think it's wild that the human voice is still such a misunderstood and complex instrument after all the studies that have been done. It feels like were just scratching the surface. For any beginner out there pay extra attention to the section at 30:17. Great video! ill add a few of my observations, which aren’t proof at all, but helped me a lot while learning all basses the same way vocal subharmonic fragment it’s own vibration with itself to get a bass, every non vocal bass can have this effect. The easiest example to understand is the difference between sub liproll and normal liproll, there is a clear click where you breath harder, get more relax, and fill your lungs slower, wich completely changes the type of vibration. Dlow does the same thing with his inward bass, relax, breath harder but not more and you will click into a second subharmonic that sounds dirty and unstable.. Same with your tongue, uvula, and everything you can vibrate. Inertia does the same in his first round against colaps, the switch between sub inward bass and normal inward bass is not a change in pitch but in type of vibration. And even though it seems that a vocalised lower subharmonic bass is not the same as a vibration bass, it still helps to feel that type of vibration while learning. And the secret to learn these deeper vibrations is not to contract more, even though it’s probably what’s happening. When inertia teached me vibration bass, he was explaining the the vibration bass was « between voice and throat bass », meaning that he did throat bass, relaxed till the throat bass started to crack, and added support to this unstable bass by breathing harder. And from my experience it’s always like this, going lower in subharmonic is always about relaxing more and breathing harder (but not faster, you’re adding more torque but your lungs are actually getting emptied slower). For most people the tip of contracting more will make them hurt themselves and search in the opposite direction, since they will just add distortion their bass like a rock singer would add distortion to his voice

    • @kindreon

    I don’t know if physical appearance is as central as they say. When I was my most physically fit, I was watching guys with beer guts get women while I struck out, because these less attractive men had social skills and took command of the dynamic with the women they liked. When I was more average looking, I was also more open to socializing and confident, and that is why I was actually more successful with women then.

      Uncertainty regarding the impact of physical appearance is difficult for people to grasp. What you think is attractive often doesn't align with what women do and vice versa. Familiarity does introduce bias in favor of attraction, so sociability isn't nothing, but modern conditions are increasingly dissolving its leverage.

    İd love to know the age, social class, culture, etc, of all the people in any studies about hypergamy. This is all unbeleivably specific, different people do kinship and caste and sex differently.

      They're generally clear about demographics in studies. Hypergamy is observed, but a lot gets lost in translation between science and culture.
